Agar is a gel, that is derived form seaweed and is therefore 100% vegetable. One of EPG Fuels purposes is to produce a product that is organic and a great substitute to the animal based gels. Agar is a food additive that has been on the market for a long time, however most of the Agar used in the US is imported. EPG Fuels aims to import only the seaweed and derive Agar and other products from the seaweed, creating an American product and domestic workplaces.
Agar is used widely in food processing to stabilize substances, such as yogurt, jelly, canned food, confectioneries and so on. Over the last years the demand for Agar has gone us substantially due to the fact that agar is vegetable and organic. Agar is referred to in many recipies as a stabilizer, as it is odorless and tasteless.
In the early stages of the production, EPG Fuels will import the seaweed needed. The plan, however, is that EPG Fuels start cultivating its own plant material and become self supplied with raw material. South Florida, The Carribean and Central America are great places to cultivate sea weed, because of the warmth and high light intensity, due to many sunshine hours. At EPG Fuels we firmly believe that plant material from the ocean is a source of resources for the future.
